What is Botox or botulinum toxin type A?

The injection of botulinum toxin type A, commonly known as Botox, is the current treatment of choice for reducing wrinkles and thus achieve an effect of facial rejuvenation. Botox is a brand name of a synthetic toxin similar to that produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

The movement of facial muscles produces folds in the skin where they anchor. At first only when these muscles contract, so called expression wrinkles. Over time these wrinkles are marked although the muscles are relaxed. When a small amount of Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract. The effect achieved is the temporary weakening of facial muscles and thus softens or eliminates wrinkles in the skin for a few months.

When is better to postpone Botox?

As with many other things in the world of beauty, each treatment must be applied at the appropriate time and place to get the maximum benefits. Here’s the times when it is better to wait before injecting botulinum toxin type A.

  • When you’re pregnant: better a procedure with Botox or any type of injectable cosmetic or filling is not done when you’re pregnant, simply because no studies have shown to date that the product can not harm a child or that does not pass through breast milk.
  • If you really do not need it: although it is very beneficial to take a preventive approach and treatment with botox done before the lines and wrinkles have appeared, however, there is no reason to start doing if your skin is completely perfect and neither even it is exhibiting the first signs of aging.
  • If you have a big event that day: Botox, and all neuromodulators need time to act and that the results are noticed. If you have an important meeting, a party or an event you want to show the wonderful effects of the treatment plan your doctor’s appointment at least two weeks in advance. Keep in mind that as a result of treatment with injectable form, there is always the possibility of bruising, and in any case the effects will be much more visible once through a period of time.
  • If you need volume correction: Botox will not give fullness to the skin or volume, nor will strengthen sagging, for which the fillings are needed. What it will do is temporarily paralyze the muscle contractions so that when an expression becomes, not a line or wrinkle is formed.
